The Sacred Number 79

Dear Readers,

I decided to jump ahead dramatically to test for meaningful correspondences between Gold (Element 79), Verse 79 of Kitab-i-aqdas, Year 79 of the Baha'i Era (1922), and the 79th highest altitude island in the world.  I am very happy with what I found.  Starting with Kitab-i-aqdas, this is what we read:

k79. We see you rejoicing in that which ye have amassed for others and shutting out yourselves from the worlds which naught except My guarded Tablet can reckon. The treasures ye have laid up have drawn you far away from your ultimate objective. This ill beseemeth you, could ye but understand it. Wash from your hearts all earthly defilements, and hasten to enter the Kingdom of your Lord, the Creator of earth and heaven, Who caused the world to tremble and all its peoples to wail, except them that have renounced all things and clung to that which the Hidden Tablet hath ordained.

What I ask us--in the mysteries of the fractal, interconnected universe in which we live--is this: could there be a hidden prophetic hint of the future in verse 79 of Kitab-i-aqdas telling us something about Gold and 1992, the 79th year of the Baha'i Era?

In 1921 German started suffering high inflation.  France and other countries were no longer accepting war reparations in German currency, and instead they started demanding reparations in foreign currency or in gold.  The German's struggled for about a year to comply which created increasing inflation for them as they tried to buy foreign currency, until by the middle of 1992 inflation exploded for them into hyperinflation until the price of goods where doubling every two days.  This was a major inducement along the path to World War II.  When I think about what Baha'u'llah wrote in Kitab-i-aqdas about greed taking people down a road they weren't intending to travel in piling up treasures, I am awed by the deep connection here to this most dramatic event in world history on the year that corresponds in history to this verse.  Think about it:

"The treasures ye have laid up have drawn you far away from your ultimate objective."

Where not the French and others shooting themselves in the foot by pushing the Germans so hard that extremist forces were empowered and the Nazi party strengthened leading the hole world straight into WWII?  I am amazed.  Is is a hidden prophesy?  I don't need to answer that question.  Just the correspondence between Gold, Verse 79, and world history are enough to held me remember the dates and numbers of all three of these things.  But what about the island with the 79th highest altitude?

That would be Sicily.  The interesting thing about Sicily is that it has one of the most active volcanoes in the world.  It was also described in reference to a golden wheel in classical Greek poetry when it was a part of Greece.

In the Wikipedia article on Sicily we find the following "mentioned in Iliad xviii:"
"At the moment Hephaestus was busily
Turning from bellows to bellows, sweating with toil
As he laboured to finish a score of three-legged tables
To stand around the sides of his firm-founded hall. On each
Of the legs he had put a gold wheel, that those magic tables
Might cause all to marvel by going with no other help
To the gathering of gods and by likewise returning to his house."
Mount Etna on Sicily spewing lava and ash all the time is also a good metaphor or parable for the quest for lots of gold and riches.  The soil around a volcano is rich for growing crops, but if you live to close to it and get to greedy clawing away at the slopes you are likely to be right in the line of fire for the next eruption.

I am happy to use Sicily as the memory locus for this important element, verse, and date in history.  Check back at the end of this article in the future for more details on how we will use the geography of Sicily to memorize verse 79 in Kitab-i-aqdas word by word.  For now I leave you with a famous painting in the public domain to center our imaginations on (Cole Thomas, Mount Aetna from Taormina, painted in 1844):
